My Sister,
Patti A Powers
9/29/60 - 1/1/79
Patti and I were really close, she was not
just my big
sister, but my best friend. We
were so close that on the weekends whoever got home first from a date or
going out with friends, would hang out and wait for the other one to get
home and then we would lay in bed, eat BBQ potato chips and talk about
everything that happened that night.
On December 31, 1978 - Patti and I spent the day shopping for fun
clothes to wear to a New Year's Eve party that we were going to that
night. We went to the party and it was fun but really crowded, so she and
another friend, Mike, left to check out another party. That was the last
time I saw her. I stayed up waiting for her all night and at about 4:00 in
the morning started calling everyone I knew to see if they knew where
Patti was..
Apparently, on the way to the other party, Mike failed to negotiate a
turn and hit a tree. Patti was thrown from the car and killed instantly. Patti was
a Christian and I believe with all my heart that she is in heaven.
My younger sister, Tina, and I loved her so much that it is still hard to
talk about her without crying. It's very painful when someone is
taken from you so young and so suddenly. But, God and time has an amazing
way of healing the heart and you go on, always holding the memories close
to your heart.
